Graduate Quantity Surveyor – Retail Fit-Out

Location: Hull, East Yorkshire
Salary: £27,000 – £30,000 per annum

About you

You are a recent Quantity Surveying graduate looking to take the next step and build your career within a successful commercial team.

You will ideally have achieved a 2:1 degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related subject and be keen to put your academic knowledge into practice within a live construction environment.

You do not need previous experience in retail fit-out. What matters most is that you have the right attitude, a willingness to learn and the ambition to develop into a confident Quantity Surveyor.

You will be joining an experienced commercial team who will support you from day one, giving you the training, guidance and exposure you need to develop your career.

Ideally, you will live within around one hour's commute of Hull, as the role will be office based with some travel depending on the projects you are working on.

Your experience

You will ideally have:

• A 2:1 degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related subject

• A genuine interest in developing a career within quantity surveying and construction

• Good numerical and analytical skills

• Strong attention to detail

• Good communication and organisational skills

• A willingness to learn and take responsibility

• The ability to work as part of a wider commercial and project team

• A full UK driving licence would be beneficial

Previous experience within retail fit-out, refurbishment or construction would be beneficial but is not essential.

Full training will be provided, so this is a genuine opportunity for a graduate to join an established business and develop their commercial career from the ground up.

What you will be doing with your experience

You will join an established commercial team and work alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors who will help you develop your skills and knowledge.

As you progress, you will become involved in the commercial management of retail fit-out and refurbishment projects for major clients across the UK.

Your role will include:

• Supporting Quantity Surveyors with the commercial management of projects

• Assisting with subcontract procurement and tendering

• Helping to prepare valuations and cost reports

• Monitoring project costs and expenditure

• Assisting with variations and change control

• Supporting the preparation of forecasts and financial information

• Developing relationships with subcontractors and suppliers

• Assisting with subcontractor payments and final accounts

• Working closely with Project Managers and the wider delivery team

• Learning how to manage commercial risk and protect project profitability

• Building your knowledge of contracts, procurement and commercial management

As your experience develops, you will be given increasing responsibility and the opportunity to progress towards managing your own projects and commercial packages.

You will be working on significant retail projects for a major food retail client, giving you excellent exposure to the commercial side of construction and the opportunity to build a long-term career within the business.
